When a parent is no longer able to look after a child, that child may become a ward of the state. In such a situation, the Probate Court may also appoint a guardian in order to take care of the child and manage the child’s property and assets. A court can also appoint a guardian for a child whose parents have abandoned him. A court can also appoint a guardian if the guardian fails to provide adequate care. A guardian is given the same legal rights as a parent. That means giving shelter, education, medical care, and love. The court can also appoint a special guardian, in order to deal with specific issues – like managing the minor’s property without having to do anything else besides that.
